COMMUNITY

AIGA Pittsburgh Community

When we started working on the site over a year ago, we knew from the start we wanted to offer our fellow members with the ability to communicate, share information and become better designers by learning from each other.

We met with several of you at last year's President's Breakfast, and you had a lot of great ideas about social networking, blogging, tagging content and sharing information in a way that would bring all of us together talking about and sharing design.

The site is being built in iterations. Over the next few weeks we'll implement a blogging platform that will give all of our members the ability to register on this site and have your own blog. Your blog posts will not only post to your own blog, but to the main AIGA Pittsburgh blog as well. This way we can all share in the dialoge together and strengthen our industry through sharing ideas.

In the future, we'll add more features, including the ability to post photos to events and possibly vote on each others content. Some of these features will probably work out-of-the-box with the new blog system. And of course, we want your feedback on what features you would like.

The blog system we're going to use is Wordpress MU, which is a version of the popular open source blogging platform, Wordpress, which runs thousands of blogs and sites including Tech Crunch, GigaOM, Flickr's blog as well as The New York Times, CNN.com, Fox News and Reuters blogs.

We're excited to offer this to our members, and realize that this truly will be what we all make of it. We hope to see our community develop content as strong as our member base; we believe that with the unique backgrounds of our chapter members we can create a rich, deep and diverse pool of content. Let's throw our hats in the ring and see what happens.

Keep checking back in the next month, we'll be up and running shortly.
