Sean Adams
Partner
AdamsMorioka
Sean Adams is a partner at AdamsMorioka in Los Angeles. The firm’s founding philosophy of clarity, purity, and resonance spearheaded a revolution in the design community from chaos and complexity to honesty and simplicity.
Since AdamsMorioka’s founding in 1994, Adams has been globally recognized by every major competition and publication including: Communication Arts, AIGA, Graphis, The Type Directors Club, The British Art Director’s Club, ID, and the New York Art Director’s Club. In 2000, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art exhibited AdamsMorioka in a solo retrospective. Adams and Morioka hold the honor of being named to the ID40, citing them as two of the 40 most important people shaping design internationally. Sean is a Fellow of the International Design Conference at Aspen.
Sean is a past member of the AIGA National Board, past president of AIGA/LA and currently chair of the AIGA Creative Leadership Campaign and AIGA Annual Gala. He currently teaches Typography at California Institute of the Arts. Sean is a frequent lecturer and competition judge internationally.
AdamsMorioka is the author of Logo Design Workbook. Their upcoming book, Color Workbook will be released in 2005. AdamsMorioka’s clients include ABC, Adobe, Gap, Old Navy, Frank Gehry Associates, Nickelodeon, USC, Sundance, and The Walt Disney Company.
Lucinda Hitchcock
Associate Professor
Rhode Island School of Design
Lucinda Hitchcock is an Associate Professor in the department of Graphic
Design at Rhode Island School of Design. She has been at RISD since 1998,
teaching core courses such as Making Meaning, Typography, Critical Issues,
and Environmental Graphic Design. She also teaches various graduate studios
including Visual Narrative. Additionally, she advises graduate and
undergraduate students in special projects, independent studies, and Thesis.
Hitchcock’s specialties include book design, conceptual applications for
design and typography, visual and written language in three dimensions, and
the creation and critique of visual narrative.
Hitchcock has worked for various design studios including Bureau NY (on a
freelance basis) and Vaughn Wedeen in Albuquerque NM. Her designs have won
awards and appeared in AIGA annuals, Print Magazine, Best of New England
exhibitions, AAUP (american association of university presses) catalogs and
exhibitions. Recently, her work, along with selected student work, appeared
in the book “Type Design: Radical Innovations and Experimentation” edited by
Teal Triggs (Thames and Hudson 2004). Hitchcock continues to explore notions
of the book as time-based media, and maintains her design studio, working
with such clients as Beacon Press, David Godine Publishers, Chronicle Books
and the Boston MFA. She lives in Providence with her husband Thomas Brendler
and daughter Phoebe Lee.
Jeff Matz

Lure Design
Jeff Matz is a founding partner of Lure Design in Orlando, Florida, a full-service design studio working in corporate communications, branding, packaging, and book design. Most notably, Jeff has been recognized for his hand screen-printed posters for such artists as Wilco and the Dave Matthews Band. His work has been published in publications such as Communication Arts, Print, Paste, and a number of books including Graphis Posters, Swag-Art Rock of the 90s, The Art of Modern Rock, and Rockport’s One Color Graphics. A graduate of Ringling School of Art & Design, Jeff currently serves on the board of the Orlando chapter of the AIGA. He has also been invited to judge awards shows and publications, including the 2005 Communication Arts Design Annual.

Matt Walton
Principal
Electric Red
With a career in design spanning almost two decades, Matt Walton brings to market a robust skill set of creative talent, business acumen, and marketing expertise. His experience has spanned an extensive array of top creative companies, as well as paving his own path as a successful entrepreneur. His capabilities are derived from experience working as an Animator with Walt Disney, designing toys for FAO Schwartz, Playschool, and Hasbro; and developing cutting edge E-CD and Virtual Reality environments for MGM, Jones Intercable, and Paramount Pictures. He has received national recognitions for his illustration and design, and was highlighted in Society of Illustrators, NY. Clients have also included: Sheryl Crow, Billy Joel, MGM, Sony, Nintendo, Warner Brothers, American Express, Simon & Schuster, Southwest Airlines, and GM.
Matt currently leads electricRED, a Product Marketing and User Experience design firm in Austin, Texas.
Tony Brock
Professor
North Carolina State University
Tony Brock joined the North Carolina State University, College of Design faculty in 1999 and has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in motion and screen-based interaction design. He is currently co-authoring a typography primer that will be published by Thames & Hudson and working with students on print-based mapping of time and space as both process work for interaction design and as final artifacts. He is a junk collector and with assistance from his veterinarian wife, Kristie, recently completed Bric-o-lodge, a dog house made from a wheelbarrow.
Brock’s published teaching and design work includes AIGA’s Loop, Typographics, and the American Center for Design 100 Show. Prior to teaching, he held positions in design and advertising and completed projects for a range of clients including Nokia, Philips, and Whittle Communications.
Christopher Simmons
Principal
MINE
Christopher Simmons is an award-winning designer, writer, and educator. Previously a principal at the internationally recognized design firm, Alterpop, Christopher launched his own firm, MINE in 2004. He has developed, designed, and managed a variety of design and identity projects for such clients as Kaiser Permanente, The Nature Conservancy, The California Academy of Sciences, UCLA, and numerous lesser-known enterprises.
He developed and teaches a course entitled Identity Design at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, has lectured on design issues at Sonoma State University, University of California, Santa Cruz, The Sacramento Ad Club, and on numerous occasions for the AIGA, and for the Western Art Directors Club, and has judged and managed competitions for AIGA, Rockport Publishers, and Graphic Design USA.
Christopher’s first book, Logo Lab, was released in June 2005, followed by Letterhead & Logo Design 9 in September. He is currently authoring a third title for release in Spring 2006.
Christopher is the president of the AIGA San Francisco chapter.
