Lecture by Brandon Boan of Tip Type: Thursday, January 22 at 6:30 PM
Exhibition runs Thursday, January 8 – Thursday, February 5, 2015
“Behind the Platen” is an exhibition celebrating the legacy of letterpress printing. The exhibit includes work from artists and printers in our region, and demonstrates how the medium is being explored and utilized in our contemporary design culture.
The exhibition showcases the range of letterpress work done by shops and individuals in the Western Pennsylvania/ Eastern Ohio area. Along with the exhibited work, it also educates on the history of the medium through development of current day trends. This body of work shares the passion of those continuing the legacy of letterpress printing.
Join us for a lecture on Thursday, January 22 at 6:30 PM by Brandon Boan, an independent artist, researcher, and maker and co-founder of Tip Type– a letterpress studio and collaborative work-space. Also that evening there will be hands-on letterpress demonstration before and after the lecture, where you can take away a souvenir print from the exhibition.
The exhibit will be open to the public from January 8 through February 5, 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM in the Library Gallery of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
