Dan 600x600

The Pittsburgh chapter of AIGA cordially invites you to join us in honoring Dan Boyarski, who has been named the AIGA Pittsburgh Fellow for 2014.

Registration for this event will close on Monday, May 5 at 8 PM EST.

The Fellow Award is the highest distinction an AIGA chapter can confer upon one of its members. It honors mature designers who have made significant contributions — through education, writing, leadership, reputation, and design practice — to raising standards of excellence in practice and conduct in their chapters and their design communities.

Dan is widely considered a pioneer of interaction design and kinetic typography. A professor at (and formerly the head of) the School of Design at Carnegie Mellon University, he has taught typography, information, and interaction design at the graduate and undergraduate levels since 1982.

Among his interests are time-based communication; visualization of complex data; and the combination of type, image, sound, and motion for effective communication. He has conducted research for organizations like IBM, Samsung, Nortel, Carnegie Museum of Art, and Microsoft, and he frequently addresses national and international conferences and symposia.

After earning his MFA in graphic design from Indiana University, he studied design and film animation at the School for Design in Basel, Switzerland. The Design Management Institute awarded Dan the 1999 Muriel Cooper Prize for “outstanding achievement in advancing design, technology, and communications in the digital environment.”
