Each year, AIGA Pittsburgh welcomes a panel of 3 recognized jurors, representing a cross-section of design, to review and select entries for our annual design competition & exhibition; PGH365. This exhibition highlights the best work produced in the region and is truly a celebration of the designer’s struggle in finding solutions that are effective, meaningful and beautiful.
Our judges will be joining us in Pittsburgh this week and they are as excited as we are. So read about them, follow them on social media, let them know what they should be sure to see while they’re in town, ask them some questions…you know, do as Mister Rogers would do…be neighborly!

Mike Joosse | President, Designation
Mike Joosse creates change within organizations. Since 2001, he’s devoted his career to nurturing and leading design communities and championing the talents and dedication of their designers. Currently, he serves as President at Designation, the leading UX/UI immersive design program, where he helps participants become purposeful, skilled, impassioned design leaders of tomorrow. He has lectured across the country on community and careers in design, at conferences and to a host of organizations. He believes in being hungry, indispensable, and enthralled every day.

Bonnie Siegler | Founder, Eight and a Half
Bonnie Siegler, voted one of the fifty most influential designers working today by Graphic Design USA, founded and runs the award-winning design studio Eight and a Half. Bonnie has recently written two books, both of which come out in February 2018. “Signs of Resistance” is a visual history of protest in America, and “Dear Client” is a business book geared to helping clients work more successfully with creatives. She is best known for her design work for Saturday Night Live, the Criterion Collection, HBO, Late Night with Seth Meyers, StoryCorps, Participant Media and Newsweek. Most recently, she was the creative director of the “President” “President” “President” “President” “President” “President” “President” “President” Trump parody autobiography “You Can’t Spell America Without Me” by Alec Baldwin and Kurt Andersen and created the main title sequence for “Will & Grace.” She has taught at the graduate level for many years at the School of Visual Arts and Yale University, conducted workshops at the Maryland Institute College of Art and Rhode Island School of Design and judged design competitions all over the place. She is married to experimental filmmaker Jeff Scher and they have two wonderful children, Buster and Oscar.

Frances Yllana | Executive Creative Director, Imaginuity
Frances Yllana is Executive Creative Director of Imaginuity in Dallas, cochair of AIGA’s national Design for Democracy Initiative, Design Director for AIA Dallas’s Columns Magazine and President Emeritus of AIGA Dallas-Fort Worth. Since 2001, she has worked for and led some of Dallas’s most reputable design, advertising and interactive firms on projects ranging from print to experiential to strategy, and her work has been recognized in noted print and interactive collections such as Print, Graphis, Communication Arts, Black Book AR100, Creativity34, UnderConsideration and The Dieline and has won awards from numerous leading local and national industry organizations. Frances also has extensive teaching experience at the University of Texas Arlington’s Art + Art History Department and the University of North Texas’ Visual Arts + Design Program.

A note about PGH365 Judge Andrea Hyde
For those of you who have received our mailers/emails about PGH365 to this point, you will notice a change in our jury. Unfortunately, Andrea Hyde had to withdraw herself from the competition. As many of us know all too well, sometimes work just happens in a way that can’t be avoided. Her position at Target kept her from being able to be here this week, and while we will miss her, we hope to have her in Pittsburgh again in the future. Frances Yllana has graciously stepped into the role to complete our 2018 PGH365 Judges Panel.
